All of these audiences have different needs at the same critical moment. Plus4 develops crisis strategies based on the specific incident, the audiences involved, and the media and political landscape surrounding it.

Crisis PR FAQs

What is crisis PR?2026-08-19T16:50:08+00:00

Crisis PR is a specialized field of public relations focused on protecting and preserving the reputation of a company, organization, or individual during a high-stakes situation. It combines strategic communications, media management, and rapid response to help clients navigate threats and come out the other side with their reputation intact. In a crisis, it’s important to act as quickly as possible, as favorable outcomes are more likely with swift, decisive action.

Does Plus4 work with individuals or just companies and organizations?2026-08-19T16:50:33+00:00

Yes. Plus4 works with executives, board leadership, and other public figures in addition to companies and organizations.

How much does crisis PR cost?2026-08-20T23:45:07+00:00

Crisis PR costs vary by scope, client type, and complexity of circumstances. For crisis response services, Plus4 typically bills hourly against a minimum engagement fee.

How quickly can Plus4 respond to a crisis inquiry?2026-08-20T22:23:42+00:00

Plus4 aims to respond to all crisis inquiries within an hour and can begin work immediately upon receipt of the initial deposit. To get in touch, email info@plus4pr.com or call 310-948-9743.

What qualifies as a PR crisis?2026-08-20T23:10:06+00:00

A PR crisis is any situation that threatens to damage the reputation of a company, organization, or individual and demands an immediate strategic response. If you’ve lost control of your narrative or the situation has the potential to erode public trust, it’s a crisis.

What’s the difference between crisis PR and reputation management?2026-08-19T16:55:07+00:00

Crisis PR and reputation management are related but distinct. Crisis PR is reactive—responding quickly and strategically when a specific threat or incident puts your reputation at risk. Reputation management is proactive and ongoing, focused on building and maintaining public trust over time. Many clients work with Plus4 on both, using crisis PR to navigate an immediate situation and reputation management to rebuild afterward.

Can Plus4 help if a crisis is already in the media?2026-08-19T16:55:23+00:00

Yes, clients frequently come to us after negative press has already been published. While it’s always better to get ahead of an issue early, it’s rarely too late to take control of the narrative, limit further damage, and begin rebuilding trust. If you’re already in the media, call us as soon as possible.

How does crisis PR work for a public agency with transparency requirements?2026-08-19T16:56:47+00:00

Public agencies operate under open meeting laws, public records requirements, and a standard of transparency that private companies don’t face. That constrains some tactics and rules out others entirely. Plus4 builds crisis strategies that work within those obligations rather than against them, because for a public agency, the appearance of concealment is often more damaging than the underlying issue.

What if our organization doesn’t have a communications team?2026-08-19T16:57:05+00:00

Many nonprofits, mid-size institutions, and small businesses don’t. Plus4 works as an embedded partner, taking on the response directly while keeping your leadership informed and prepared. We also build plans designed specifically for small teams.
